Og's Bog
The "Bog" is located near Schomberg, Ontario at coordinates 43º
58' 44" N latitude, 79º 44' 49" W longitude, and 290 metres
elevation. The Bog is not a dark sky observing site because it is located
only 50 km from Toronto, however because it is about a one hour drive from
Toronto, it is frequently used by members (typically
between
30 and 70 nights per year).
Eagle's Nest Observatory
In 1996, The Bog became home to a second club observatory. It features a 12-foot diameter dome, and has now become a home for the club's 16" Dobsonian telescope.
In September 2000, this observatory was officially dedicated as the "Eagle's Nest" observatory in remembrance of longtime member Otmar Eigler.
Flip Top Observatory
The Bog 8' flip-top
roof observatory houses the 12½" f/6 White Telescope. This instrument
features optics by Peter Ceravolo, and a German equatorial mount. The telescope
has been upgraded to allow the use of an ST4 CCD autoguider for astrophotography.
Access to the "Bog" is available to members who can demonstrate
their ability to use the equipment. A yearly key fee is charged.
In the spring of 2000, the original flip-top observatory was demolished and a new, larger flip-top was constructed to take its place.
Og's Bog Warmup Hut

Next to the observatories at the bog is a warm-up hut that helps make the cold winter nights more bearable and provides a place to have a nap if you feel too tired to drive home.
There is a small table for working with star charts and a kerosene heater for warmth.
